Gutter bracket spacing and rainwater goods
Gutter brackets are fixed at a maximum of 600 mm centres, with an additional bracket immediately either side of every joint, angle and outlet. The gutter falls consistently towards the outlet and is set so that water running off the roof covering discharges into it rather than behind it.

What this means on site
Bracket spacing tightens where snow load is a factor or where the manufacturer specifies closer centres for the profile used — the manufacturer’s figure always wins where it is tighter.
The line of the gutter matters as much as the spacing: a sagging run between widely spaced brackets holds water, and standing water in a gutter is what produces the staining that shows up at pre-handover.
What actually gets picked up
- Brackets stretched to 800–1000 mm centres on a long elevation, giving a visible sag.
- No bracket next to the outlet, so the gutter drops at the point it should be highest supported.
- Roof covering overhanging too little, allowing wind-driven water behind the gutter and down the fascia.
- Downpipe discharging onto a gully lip rather than into it.
