Plasterboard must be fixed to light steel studs with self-drilling, self-tapping screws at specified centres, typically a maximum of 300mm. Where fire resistance is a requirement, the plasterboard must demonstrate adequate performance and comply with BS EN 520. Minimum plasterboard thicknesses are specified based on stud spacing: 9.5mm for up to 450mm spacing and 12.5mm for up to 600mm spacing.

How to check it on site
Check plasterboard thickness, screw spacing, and ensure fire-rated boards are used in required locations as per design specifications.
Common failure
Incorrect screw spacing or using plasterboard of insufficient thickness can compromise the fire resistance and structural integrity of the wall lining, potentially leading to cracking or collapse.
