Code 4 = 1.80 mm

Milled lead sheet to BS EN 12588 used for flashings and weatherings.

Code 4 milled lead sheet is 1.80 mm thick, the usual minimum for soakers, cover flashings and small gutters on a house roof. Lighter codes should not be substituted on exposed flashings.

How to check it on site

Check the code marking on the roll or the delivery note before the lead is dressed in; once fitted the code cannot be read.

Common failure

Code 3 lead used on exposed cover flashings to save cost, then creeping and splitting under thermal movement.
