Clear length of landing required at each end of a flight, measured in the direction of travel.

    Basis in regulation

How to check it on site

Check the door swing on plan and again on site — a door opening onto the landing must not reduce the clear length.

    Common failure

A door hung to swing over the bottom landing because the hinge side was reversed on site.
