Racking board fixing centres
150 mm at board edges, 300 mm at intermediate studs
Fixings kept at least 10 mm from the board edge; pattern to the frame designer's specification where it is tighter
Sheathing boards are what give a timber frame panel its racking strength, so the nail or staple pattern is a structural requirement, not a fixing convenience.
Basis in regulation
How to check it on site
Spot-check a panel per house against the designer's nailing schedule before the membrane covers it.
Common failure
Overdriven fixings that break the board face, losing the racking value they were meant to provide.
